King Lear with Rob Gioia

Yesterdays workshop was exceptionally fun. The group worked very well with one another, possibly from the zombie-tagging we began with. It was nice to hear Rob Gioia explain abstract theatre. The previous reading on theatre styles seemed to continue to click into place within my mind during our discussion.

I have yet to read King Lear, but I'm getting on it ASAP. I googled an abbreviated version the day before the workshop after reading on Rob's facebook wall that we would be working with this play. When it comes to creating an abstract five-minute theatre performance based upon another play, I'd say King Lear is as good as it gets for finding a great theme: cruelty.

When Rob mentioned that he was particularly focusing on cruelty in his performance, I thought of Artaud and what the theatre can be. I liked this workshop, and keen to do the next one.
